I'm so sorry this space is always so neglected! The past month or so have been absolutely crazy.

First, we were lucky enough to go to Italy for a week to visit Dave's sister and her husband. When we discovered that we had enough frequent flyer miles to get there in low season we jumped at the chance! The buddy stayed with some friends for a couple of days, then my parents (who live here in town) for a week. Just getting ready for the trip and for the buddy to stay with my parents was an exhausting couple of weeks. Throw in there the fact that there were two birthmothers that we knew were considering us,  one of which was due the day we were supposed to leave (we found out 2 weeks before we left we were NOT chosen) and you get a lot of exhaustion.

We had an amazing time on our trip and the buddy did really, really well without us! Yay! But, while on our trip I also accidentally cut myself pretty bad with a sharp knife while on a picnic (ouch!) and ended up in the ER to get stitches and bandaging that looked similar to a cast. After getting home I was still in a good deal of pain and my left hand was pretty much unusable for at least a week, which meant not blogging or even washing the dishes.

In addition to not being able to use my hand, when we got back we were less than a week away from the buddy's birthday, there were just 2 weeks left of school (which proved to be more stressful than I anticipated), family coming into town on Memorial Day weekend and a small birthday party to prepare for. Needless to say, it has been one crazy month!

Thankfully we all survived and my finger has headed well (and I have a pretty impressive scar to go with the story). :-) The school year is officially over, but this also means there are about 1,000 things that now need to be done that have been put off during the busy school year. So, I still feel like I haven't had a chance to catch my breath.

AND we're now weaning the buddy from the pacifier, which means tough bedtimes, naptimes, early morning wakings and a cranky toddler. :/ So, right now I'm just trying not to lose my mind, while trying to finally get the house clean and deal with the many other things that have been abandoned in our recent history.

So, that's what's going on here! I promise to post more (like pictures!) as I have the time. The good news is, we have a happy and healthy 2 year old who makes us smile every day. :-)

  1. Wow! That does sound like a stressful month! Yay for a trip to Italy and a birthday party in the midst of the chaos!

  2. Whew, that does sound exhausting!!

  3. Yay! Life is good! Except for the cut, they are all good things. Hope now you can slow down and smell the roses--or the tomatoes growing in your garden!
