15 Months!!

In my opinion, each passing month with your child gets even more fun! Though there are parts of me that miss Little Piñata as a teeny, tiny baby, it seems like each day he develops more of a personality, learns new things and makes us laugh at something new. I really feel like I can see him changing from a baby to a person with a big personality right before my eyes! Weight & Length: At his 15 month appointment he was 30 in. tal,l which is right around the 12th percentile for height using WHO guidelines. He's 19lbs 4.5oz, moving him up to the 7th percentile for weight (also using the WHO guidelines). We're so excited he crossed the 5th percentile mark! :-)

On the beach... being silly!

Sleeping:
 Well, we definitely haven't figured out the sleep mystery in the last month. For the most part he sleeps through the night. But, a handful of times this month he has woken up in the middle of the night and it's been almost impossible to get him to go back to sleep. This has happened twice in the past week and a half. We've deduced that it's partially related to teething, but mostly related Wonder Week 64. He's coming up on 64 weeks (based on due date) and he is definitely showing all the signs of this Wonder Week!! He's still taking two naps most days, but one nap once or twice a week. He usually goes right to sleep, as long as he has his Mo-Mo lovey with his pacifier on the end. :-)

Eating:
 Ever since DS fell off the CDC weight chart at 9 months, we had been stressed about food -- wondering if he's getting enough, wondering why he won't eat more, etc. However, this is the first month that I have had almost no stress about it! Part of this has been finding a pediatrician that's not worried about it (more about that in another post) and since the pediatrician isn't worried, we're not worried, LP doesn't feel our pressure and just eats what he wants to. He's also becoming a pretty big eater too!

When LP wakes up in the morning (usually around 6:30am) he usually rolls around and talks to himself for a while. Once we hear him we make him a sippy cup of milk and give it to him in his crib. This has been a good way for him to get a few ounces of milk in while he's lying down on his back and thirsty, since it's first thing in the morning. Then, within 20-30 minutes we get him up, changed, dressed and give him breakfast. He has fruit and oatmeal with yogurt and blackstrap molasses. We added the molasses after our pediatrician recommended it to boost his iron. His levels weren't low enough to need a supplement, but she suggested blackstrap molasses as an iron-rich food that a toddler would like. Sometimes LP will have an entire adult serving size of oatmeal with 2 tbsp yogurt, 1 tsp of blackstrap molasses and an entire banana! So, he definitely loves breakfast. :-)

 He has fruit and milk for a morning snack, a well balanced lunch, milk, cod liver oil and butter for an afternoon snack and a well balanced dinner. He still has a bottle before bed, but it's usually just between 1 and 3 oz, so not much. I imagine he will be dropping this before too long. He drinks a few ounces of breastmilk a day and the rest is raw cow's milk or water.

At the kiddy pool- We LOVED this place this summer!

Clothing:
 He can wear some 12 months and some 18 month clothes. He's grown out of just about all his socks and has gone from a size 3 to a size 4 shoe!

Personality:
 Little Piñata has had kind of an up-and-down week. Knowing he was in a Wonder Week phase we looked it up online and the title of this WW is "From Theatrics to Tantrums." It couldn't describe LP's personality any better! He is mostly theatrics. Throughout the day he tries to tickle us, make funny sounds and do silly things to make us laugh. He loves to be tickled and to sing and laugh loudly. He also talks in full phrases! (Of course we have no idea what he's saying, but his confidence makes it sound like he does.) Then, before you know it, he's screaming and crying and we don't know why. This would be the tantrum part. I suppose it's time to read up on toddler discipline to help us decide exactly what we're going to do with these tantrums! If we can't figure out what he wants immediately, he often loses it. It's pretty embarrassing in public. :/

Rockin' those shades!

Milestones & Firsts:
- Understands the word "hug" and gives us and his stuffed animals hugs on command (this is the sweetest!) - Grabs my keys and tries to unlock doors with them - Started waving hello and good-bye. - Goes up to his tip-toes to try to reach things up higher. - Tries to repeat everything we say, including pitch and intonation - Now makes pig, cow, duck and bird sounds too - Started building with his blocks and not just knocking them over

There's that silly personality coming through!

New words: t
his month has been an explosion of new vocabulary!
Bubo= shovel
bye-bye
yuck
nigh-nigh=Night, Night
Nana = Nana (Mr. Piñata's mom)
uh, uh = up
dah = down or done
gook=book
booba= blueberry

As a teacher, it's back to school this week, so I'm sad to see the summer go. I can't believe that when I was getting ready for school last year, Little Piñata was just 3 months old. What a difference a year makes! Which means I really can't imagine next fall when he will be over 2 years old!

A (hard to come by) good family photo!
